This is a 10 year cross sectional analysis of gender and racial representation among EMT’s and paramedics as compared to the general US population data. They showed some marked disparities in the percentages of females and minorities with some improvements over the 10 year span while lack of improvement in recruitment people who identified as black. Other branches of healthcare have implemented programs to improve in diversity as recommended by an Institute of Medicine review on the disparities of ethnic and racial minorities in healthcare (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25032386/). This is an area where EMS could continue to improve.
